Description

Oscar Wilde once opined that, “Life imitates art far more than art imitates life.” At Chimney Rock, we have come to believe that life and art actually live in perfect balance with each other. On the north side of our original barrel room resides a massive allegorical frieze of Ganymede, a mortal of legend, kidnapped by Zeus, to become cupbearer to the gods. In the late afternoon, when the sun lights the curves of the figure, in its stark white grandeur, it is easy to see why our Ganymede vineyard was named after the mythical figure. The inspiration for this frieze came from Groot Constatia, a famous South African winery established in 1685. This inspiring recreation by California sculptor Michael Casey, urged us to create a single vineyard Cabernet with equal power, depth and beauty. Art has come to inspire life at Chimney Rock in the form of this vineyard and wine. We raise a glass to art and life.

COLOR : Inky purple red

AROMA: Our 2014 Ganymede Vineyard Cabernet is vibrant with notes of blackberry, black cherry, clove, and vanilla. It is highlighted with hints of violet and mocha creating a seductively complex aromatic profile.

FLAVOR : This age- worthy Cabernetis full bodied with a rich mid-palate and lush tannins resolving into a long and silky finish.

95 Points | Wine Advocate: "Another brilliant wine is the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Ganymede Vineyard. This is the site of the oldest vines on Chimney Rock Estate and the vineyard planted in hillside benchlands. There is a wonderful sucrosity and richness to the inner core of this wine, which is a positive characteristic that bodes well for its future. The wine is still young, promising and probably needs another 3-5 years of bottle age. But this is a 25-year wine that is impressive for a 2014, given its front end-loaded character. This is a beauty of purity and richness that should drink well for at least 25 or more years." - Robert M. Parker, Jr.

95 Points | Jeb Dunnuck: "Another wine from Stags Leap, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Ganymede Vineyard is all Cabernet raised in new French oak. Its inky purple color gives way to an elegant, stylish, incredibly polished 2014 that has a great mid-palate, polished, fine tannin, no hard edges and a great, great finish. This is an elegant, downright pretty wine that's going to cruise in the cellar given its balance." - Jeb Dunnuck

94 Points | Wine Enthusiast: "Juicy and supple, this wine astounds with its ability to be generously broad in appeal yet with undeniable complexity and tension. Its soft texture betrays chalky tannic grip, while its fruit and spice attributes—a mix of cardamon, clove and brambly berry—become increasingly intense." - Virginie Boone
