If one were to attempt to characterize the Cabernet Franc grape like we would a human being – you might use adjectives like irreverent, sassy, subtle, yet slightly rebellious. It doesn’t please the crowds like the easy-to-drink Merlot and it doesn’t share the austerity or power of the king - Cabernet Sauvignon. What it does display is nuance in its intriguing aromas, and grace and muscle in its body and structure. It is after all the parent grape of Cabernet Sauvignon. We take this grape very seriously at Chimney Rock.Our Cabernet Franc Vineyard is situated just south of Cardiac Hill, on the North East side of our Estate, and ripens before many of our Cabernet Sauvignon blocks. This warm spot gifts us with Cabernet Franc that is beautifully aromatic and ripe, and structure that is delicate and graceful. In 2017 our “Shop block” Cabernet Franc delighted us with a star appearance. We welcome you to explore this graceful and sassy grape.
Aroma: This nose on this wine is opulent with aromas of chocolate covered cherries and mocha with hints of tobacco leaf and violets
Palate: On the palate this wine is medium bodied with a silky and smooth mouthfeel and a nice lift and fresh acidity in the finish.
