A magnum of wine is a relic that calls for tradition, rite and celebration. The sheer weight of the bottle imposes a sense of importance. When did you open the last magnum of our Cabernet Sauvignon? Was it a 10th wedding anniversary? Or perhaps it was your 50th birthday? We believe these bottles are precious and can be savored at a time of one’s life that requires highlighting. In 2013 we crafted our first Kesu Cabernet Sauvignon. We present you with the release of our 2017 Kesu, the only wine at Chimney Rock made only for magnums. A mere 210 cases of this wine were produced.

After the sequence of five warm vintages and early harvests, we had almost become accustomed to “warm” as the new normal. The 2017 vintage turned that trend around and brought “the cool” back. Cool vintages deliver many advantages in crafting Cabernet Sauvignon—there is a freshness and a layered depth to the wines that is delightful. The finesse, grace and complexity of the aromatics of this cool vintage will be one to remember.
