Oscar Wilde once opined that, “Life imitates art far more than art imitates life.” At Chimney Rock, we have come to believe that life and art actually live in perfect balance with each other.
On the north side of our original barrel room resides a massive allegorical frieze of Ganymede, a mortal of legend, kidnapped by Zeus, to become cupbearer to the gods. In the late afternoon, when the sun lights the curves of the figure, in its stark white grandeur, it is easy to see why our Ganymede vineyard was named after the mythical figure. The inspiration for this frieze came from Groot Constantia, a famous South African winery established in 1685. This inspiring re-creation by California sculptor Michael Casey, urged us to craft a single vineyard Cabernet with equal power, depth and beauty. Art has come to inspire life at Chimney Rock in the form of this vineyard and wine. We raise a glass to art and life.

The 2021 growing season started as a classic drought year, and what we thought would be an extremely early harvest. We had lower than average rainfall during the winter, and not a drop of rain from April through October. The arrival of more moderate weather in August and September, allowed us to wait for great flavor development. Although we had a later finish than we expected, the mid-October harvest end still qualifies as an early harvest. Our yields were lower, but the quality was incredible with lots of color, concentration, and beautiful aromatics.

Tasting Notes
There is stunning dark fruit in the front palate of this classic beauty, with a rich and smooth mid-palate and a long length in the finish. This wine is very expressive with bountiful aromas of blackberry, black currant, and hints of vanilla, black tea, and violets.
